FLOAT - A MIXED REALITY EXPERIENCE

The fate of the Pookis lies in your hands!

Once upon a time, the Pookis lived in peaceful harmony with nature—gentle beings, deeply connected to the Tree of Life that held their floating island together. But one day, a sinister thunderstorm anomaly shattered the silence. A powerful bolt of lightning struck the heart of the tree. The crystal, source of all balance, shattered—and with it the island.

The island pieces now lie shattered and scattered throughout the world. The Pookis are separated from one another, lost among the rubble. Only you can save them and restore balance to their world.

The Team & the Project

FLOAT is a mixed-reality game for Meta Quest 2+, developed as part of our third-semester project and beyond in collaboration with the Frankfurt-based startup MyoMod.

Worldwide, more than 30 million people live with an amputation. Myoelectric prosthetics are highly functional but extremely expensive – not only because of the technology itself, but also due to the time-consuming training process in specialized labs.  

The idea: a prosthetic hand already pre-trained with thousands of data sets, making it immediately ready to use.  

To achieve this, we collect the required hand gestures in a playful way: In FLOAT, players help the small Pookis using hand tracking, while an armband records the muscle signals of the eleven primary hand gestures. The data is anonymized, encrypted, and transmitted to MyoMod.  

FLOAT is completely free and will be available on the Meta Horizon Store. Since the armband is inexpensive and can be shipped, people around the world can donate data – sign up at myomod.org.
